2008 Summer Graduate Program in Public Health July
14 – August 1
Saint Louis University School of Public
Health has expanded its Summer Program for 2008 and will be
offering the program for both students in graduate public health
programs and for professionals in the public and private sectors.
The Summer Graduate Program provides an opportunity for students
and working adults to take one or more core courses in public
health and specialized courses in biosecurity and disaster
preparedness for graduate credit or for professional development.
The program provides the opportunity for students to pursue
coursework in an informal environment where students and faculty
from diverse settings can interact and learn from each other.
Students taking the core courses can earn three credit hours per
course over three weeks. The biosecurity/disaster preparedness
courses are intensive one-week programs that are also worth three
credit hours each. Detailed information on the 2008 Summer
Graduate Program is available at
http://publichealth.slu.edu/summerprogram.htm.

SPH Students Awarded
National Fellowships in Epidemiology
Four students from the Department of Community Health became
finalists for the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE)/Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Applied Epidemiology
Fellowship Program, and three students have been awarded
fellowships. Those students already notified of their acceptance are
Katelin Bugler, Mariah Dreisinger and Tiffany Marchbanks. Julianne
Sefko is awaiting notification of her status. This is a very
competitive fellowship, and this year, of the 369 total applicants,
only 35 were selected to attend the in-person interviews in Atlanta.
SLU’s strong representation in this program, and the success of
previous years’ graduates, is indicative of the quality education
and experience that students gain while at the School of Public
Health. We continue to be a competitor among the top schools of
public health in the country.
Transtria’s
Annual Book Scholarship - The Winning Essay
This year, the winning essay was submitted by Monique Caldwell.
Transtria staff felt her essay was particularly well-written and
cohesively connected her own perspectives with her SLU SPH education
and Transtria’s principles. Last year’s scholarship recipient was
Caroline O’Neil. Click
