Alexis Duncan, Ph.D., M.P.H. received Bachelor’s
and Master’s of music degrees in Voice and Opera Performance
from the Northwestern University School of Music in Evanston,
Illinois, in 1994 and 1995, respectively. In 2000, she enrolled
in Master of Public Health program at the Saint Louis University
School of Public Health and began the doctoral program in Public
Health Studies there the following year. She received her Master
of Public Health degree in 2002 and her Ph.D. in 2006, both with
a concentration in epidemiology. During the course of her studies,
Alexis worked on several grant projects funded by NIAAA and NIDA
looking at risk factors for substance use disorders in a genetically
informative sample of offspring of Vietnam Era veteran twins,
in addition to her dissertation research on nosology and psychiatric
comorbidity in women with eating disorders.
Dr. Duncan is currently an NIAAA funded postdoctoral
research scholar in the Department of Psychiatry at the Washington
University School of Medicine. Her primary research interest is
studying the relationship between body weight and eating disorders
and substance use, abuse and dependence using genetically informative
study designs.
