Dr.
Ireland has over 20 years of experience as a physician epidemiologist
and has used her skills in government, industry, academia, and
health care organizations. She designed, conducted, and published
numerous studies of Alaskan Native health while working for the
Centers for Disease Control in Anchorage, Alaska. While at Monsanto
she continued to design and conduct studies to evaluate employee
health and safety. As an academician, she created courses to teach
medical students and residents the skills in evidence-based medicine
and critical evaluation of published literature. She was the first
Research Director in the department of Community and Family Medicine
at Saint Louis University and successfully co-authored the grants
that created the funding for that division. While on staff at
the American Academy of Family Physicians, she led the development
of Evidence Based Clinical Practice Guidelines, working with panels
composed of academic and community based Family Medicine Physicians.
She served as the Academy representative to AHRQ, Partnership
for Prevention, and other organizations.
