Dawn
earned her B.S. in Legal Studies from Southern Illinois University
in 1990, M.B.A. with an emphasis in Healthcare Finance from
Lindenwood University in 1994, and Ph.D. from Saint Louis University
in Educational Leadership in 2003. She has been a member of
the SSM Health Care since 1999. Dawn also serves as Assistant
Professor at Saint Louis University in the School of Public
Health since 2000. Currently, she is the Corporate Vice President
of Organizational Effectiveness and Chief Learning Officer for
SSM Health Care. In this role, she is responsible for the development
assessment of system-wide educational programs and processes
to enhance training and development. “We want to develop
people at all levels as leaders, to be fully engaged in achieving
our mission and in striving for excellence,” said Dr.
Runge. “I will focus on continuing SSM’s efforts
to build a customized educational approach to sustain our mission.”
Previously, she has served as the Network Director of Registration,
Revenue Director, and Administrative Director of Support Services.
Her education and professional experiences have allowed her
to speak nationally regarding revenue cycle management issues
and teach revenue workshops. With Michele A. Smith, SCT (ASCP),
CMC, she is the author of Lab Billing and Coding: Effective
Strategies for Compliance (HC Pro, 2005).
She lives in Oakville, Missouri and enjoys spending time with
her family, reading and playing the piano.
Dawn Runge became the corporate vice president - organizational
effectiveness for SSM Health Care on Jan. 2, 2007 and is responsible
for the development and assessment of system-wide educational
programs and processes to enhance training and development through
SSM University.
Dawn came to SSM in 1999 as network director of registration
for SSMHC-St. Louis. She previously served as administrative
director of support services at SSM St. Mary’s Health
Center in Richmond Heights, Mo. She also served as the hospital’s
director of revenue development.
Prior to joining SSM, she was the performance improvement coordinator
at BJC HealthCare’s corporate office and a receivable
manager at Missouri Baptist Medical Center.
She is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale
in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree in legal studies.
She earned a master's degree in business administration from
Lindenwood University in 1994 and received her doctorate of
philosophy in educational leadership from Saint Louis University
in 2003.
