Dr.
Evashwick is Dean of the School of Public Health at Saint Louis University.
She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University and
master’s and doctoral degrees from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr.
Evashwick’s multifaceted career has included positions in academia,
consulting, government and direct operations management.
Dr. Evashwick began her career as staff to the director of the Department
of Public Health for the State of Massachusetts and, subsequently, Director of
Evaluation for the North Carolina AHEC Program. She held two positions on
Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, experienced the hills of Kentucky working in a
community clinic, and became the inaugural director of the Office on Aging for
the American Hospital Association in Chicago. Dr. Evashwick has been
vice-president of long-term care for two major healthcare systems, one
spanning the East Coast, and one located throughout Southern California. For
eight years she had a full-time consulting practice, through which she worked
with health systems, hospitals, and long-term care organizations across the
nation. Dr. Evashwick has held positions at the School of Public Health of the
University of Washington and the School of Medicine of the University of North
Carolina. Prior to joining SLU, Dr. Evashwick held the Archstone Foundation
Endowed Chair and directed the Center for Health Care Innovation at California
State University Long Beach. She has authored twelve books and monographs and
over 100 articles for professional and lay audiences. She has also generated
and managed $10 million in grants from private foundations and federal, state,
and local government agencies.
Dr. Evashwick has been active in professional societies in the healthcare
management and aging fields, including being a Regent and Fellow of the
American College of Healthcare Executives, treasurer of the Healthcare
Executives of Southern California, and chair of the Gerontological Health
Section of the American Public Health Association.
Dr. Evashwick’s content expertise is in the area of long-term care,
healthcare delivery system organization, and health manpower education. She
has lived in eleven states and visited 33 others, finding in each location
welcoming residents and dedicated healthcare professionals.
