Dr. Mayer teaches
courses in program evaluation and community intervention, and is Director of
Research and Evaluation at the Center for Public Health Capacity Development
at SLU. In 2002, he received the inaugural Public Health Systems Research
Award from the Association for Health Services Research and Policy. In 2001,
an article he authored on dissemination research was selected by the Society
for Community Research and Action as one of the most influential published
during the past 25 years. Recent projects have focused on community programs
addressing childhood immunization, injury prevention, prenatal care
utilization, postpartum tobacco use, and prevention of HIV and other STDs. Dr.
Mayer has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the
Danforth Foundation, the Missouri Department of Health, and the Ewing Marion
Kauffman Foundation, among others. He reviews for the Journal of Public Health
Management and Practice, AIDS and Behavior, the Journal of Health Care for the
Poor and Underserved, and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
