Presented below is the mission of the School, which includes several philosophical assumptions:

Our Mission

The School of Public Health of Saint Louis University is an organization dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge concerning health and health services.

 

Our Philosophy

We believe that enhanced public health is a central component of our social fabric and that it fosters the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being of all people, individually and collectively.

We believe that access to heath care is essential to achievement of social justice.

We foster a commitment to excellence on the part of faculty, students, and staff of the school.

We carry out a balanced program of effective teaching, innovative research, and meaningful service to society.

We create an ethical climate consistent with the University's Catholic and Jesuit heritage, a climate embodied in a Covenant that guides faculty, students, and staff in their daily activities.

We advocate equity and compassion in decisions made about financing, organization, and delivery of health services.

We maintain a series of partnerships within the University and our broader community, from local neighborhoods to international affiliations.

We encourage diversity in programs, faculty, and students as a means of developing a broader and more balanced appreciation for the complexity of the world around us.
