Other MPH Options
With over one-seventh of the United States
economy devoted to public health and health care, effective
public health service needs collaboration with legislators,
government leaders, and community health policy makers. The
health policy concentration prepares students for careers as
health policy analysts and advocates.
There are pressures on the health sector
from both sides. On the one hand, there are pressures to
contain or reduce the size of the sector so as to spend
resources on other alternatives. On the other hand, there are
many factors and trends that place pressure on the sector to
expand. These include the threat of bioterrorism, the aging of
the population, AIDS, and genomics. Thus, there will be an
increasing need for persons who understand the health sector
and can analyze, develop, and advocate policies that affect
it.
